Beatriz Yemail is the Head of our Bogota office. She has more than 20 years of experience in economic research and analysis applied to business strategy, legal, regulatory and policy questions. She has worked in the fields of antitrust, merger control, regulation and business strategy, in consulting firms, corporations, competition authorities and academia. Beatriz’s expertise covers several sectors including telecoms, technology, digital markets, financial services, industrial goods and food & beverages.
Throughout her career, Beatriz has worked with several law firms in the UK, Ireland and Belgium, as well as in Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela. She has been an economic expert in cases with the Competition and Markets Authority (UK), and done projects for DG Comp (European Commission), OPTA (Netherlands), and ComReg (Ireland), among other authorities. Nexans, Tetrapak, Vallourec, PayPal, BBC, TigoUNE and Virgin Media are among her most important clients.
Beatriz has been a Director at the international consulting firm Global Economics Group (2021-2022). Prior to that, she advised start-ups in the health and creative industries’ sectors (2015-2020). She has also worked on regulatory and business strategy issues in the now second largest telecoms operator; her most important project consisted in finding a strategic partner for the company, which concluded in a USD850 million transaction (2010-2015). Prior to that, Beatriz worked as a consultant on regulatory and antitrust cases for Oxera, one of the most important economic consulting firms in Europe (2004-2008).
Beatriz has also worked in academia. In addition to teaching microeconomics at Universidad Javeriana (Colombia) and the London School of Economics (UK), Beatriz has done research on the main determinants of employee success at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University (2009-2010).
In addition to het analytical skills, one of Beatriz’s strengths is communicating her findings and thoughts in a clear and engaging fashion. She has published book chapters and articles on antitrust, regulatory and public policy issues. She has also developed and edited content for EconoFact (USA), PYMNTS (USA) and Revista Dinero (Colombia) (2015-2020). Beatriz’s work at EconoFact has been referenced by Wikipedia, PBS and the New York Times, among others. At PYMNTS, she developed content aimed at boosting innovations developed by FinTechs. At Revista Dinero, the most important business publication in Colombia, she was opinion columnist.
